Cellular neurophysiology lab

The mammalian brain collects information about the external world and builds an internal representation using electrochemical signals. The overarching goal of the research done in our lab is to understand the mechanisms governing the transmission and integration of these signals. We focus specifically on the relationship between synaptic interactions, signal propagation delays, and neural- astrocytic interactions during neurodegenerative diseases (ALS; Alzheimer’s disease). We use multi-site electrophysiological recordings along with imaging techniques to measure and evaluate the way neurons and astrocytes communicate.
